Ian Wilson - County Association Life Member

It was with a heavy heart that we were told by his family on Sunday 6th December that Ian had been unable to complete his fight against cancer.

Until a few years ago Ian was the County Women's Senior & Junior Cross country Team Manager, initially working closely with the late Paul Blissett. He became the "elder statesman" of the L&R County Team Management group giving advice and setting up protocols to be followed - this was always appreciated by the athletes. He also kept records and reviews of progress, achievement and participation. His experience as the Men's GB Cross Country Team Manager was of great benefit to us all. We send condolences to his wife Pauline (who also has a long-term condition), his sons and his grandchildren.

Ian moved to us from the south many decades ago bringing his humour and expertise to Leicestershire from his Blackheath & Bromley club. He had been the GB Men’s Team Manager in the years before coming to the Midlands. He was a loyal supporter (as a Marksman) of all the schools and county athletics meetings that we organised and supported. He was also a member for a time of local club, Harborough AC. His wit and his humour sustained him in many discussions and battles within athletics. His expertise, advice and patience in coaching middle-distance and endurance running has been invaluable in Leicestershire and more widely in Northamptonshire and Rugby, especially with Masters athletes.
