2020 County 10K Road Race Championships

Mallory Park hosted a Festival of 10K races that featured the 2020 County 10K Road Race Championships on Sunday, December 13th. Competitors were greeted by wet and windy conditions, but this did not prevent many finishers from recording personal best times, with the top 10 male finishers all running inside 31 minutes. The races (both men & women) were dominated by Loughborough University based students. In the Men’s race GB Junior international Luke Duffy (30-15) narrowly defeated his student colleague Matthew Stonier (30-16); whilst in the Women’s race GB international (& 2020 British 5000m Champion) Jess Judd (32-30) dominated with the third best time recorded in the UK this year.

The leading County qualified athlete in the Men’s race was Chris Perham (Loughborough Students / 30-27), who added the 10K County ‘title’ to the 5K won in October. Chris was followed home in the County lists by: Thomas Gostelow (Charnwood AC / 31-20); & Tom Mahon (Wreake & Soar Valley AC / 32-02). The leading County V40+ was Ludovic Renou (Leicester Coritanian AC / 34-57); whilst Joseph Leggatt (Charnwood AC / 38-03) was the leading County U20M.

In the Women’s races the three leading County scorers were: Sophie Coldwell (Charnwood AC / 33-25); Hannah Nuttall (Charnwood AC / 35-09); & Nikki Bartlett (Race Hub / 36-11). Like Chris, Sophie added the County 10K title to the 5K she won in October. The leading County Vet 40+ was Tracy Hinxman (Derby AC / 38-28); whilst Isabella Wrightam (Wreake & Soar Valley AC / 40-54) was the leading County U20W.

With the current England Athletics Covid competition rules restricting both the quality and depth of the fields assembled our thanks goes to Rob Osborn (Race Rapid) for assembling competitive fields in both men’s & women’s races for our Championship event. As current ‘tiers’ restrictions vary across Leicestershire & Rutland - in the interest of fairness - the County Association have decided that no medals will be issued for this year’s 10K Championship race.
